USSPT program training information explained

United States Sports Performance Training (USSPT) specializes in developing core fundamentals that propel athletes to the next level. We prioritize range of motion and the exploration of body mechanics, proper form, and a thorough understanding of primary objectives. This approach enables us to achieve skill goals rapidly and effectively, instilling confidence in athletes.

A single training session with USSPT is equivalent to an entire season elsewhere. This is due to our meticulous breakdown of skills into focused and manageable chunks, ensuring comprehension and transformation into muscle memory.

Clinic Format:

Focuses on form breakdown and technique exploration. A primary to growing and developing the needed form to play the sport. At our clinics, we do not do group drills where multiple touches are needed in order for players to learn. We focus on the skill at hand. Meaning, others skill level will not effect your experience and learning. A professional player can attend alongside a beginner and still improve so all are welcome to attend.

Warm-Up  -  Breakdown of Skill  -  Partnered Activity  -  Drills &/or Stations

Practice Format:

Focuses on team dynamics and gameplay so players can sync together as a unit and prepare themselves for organized play. Drills and scenarios are made based on skill level. Players are placed on teams that match their skills assessment score. Teams are divided by player rating and position in advance so similar skilled players make up a full team. This reinforces positive and consistent experience along with fun competition to enhance growth.

Warm-Up  -  Group Drills  -  Scenario Drills  -  Gameplay/Drills

Open Play Format:

Focuses on gameplay and using the skills you have worked on in training. This is imperative to the learning model that you must go through in order to grow. Experience comes from gameplay and how to apply skill advantageously, skills development comes from training through clinics, lessons, and practice. Teams or groups are welcome to come to our open play and play together. Our staff will form additional teams using the solo or single player attendees as fairly as possible.

VOLLEYBALL

Warm-Up  and stretch -  Sideout/Queen of the court  -  Divide Teams for gameplay

Queen of the Court/Sideout: A fast paced, large group, single-point wave game. Players line up on the serving side in organized position lines ready to wave (move onward or off) after each point.

For indoor volleyball, we play 3v3 with a setter (4 players on each team). Three lines begin on the serving side only with the 3rd line as the serving line only (If you do not want to be the server, do not stand in that line). If there are multiple setters they rotate using a 4th line located near the net OR they simply switch between receive and serve side after each point OR they stay and don't rotate at all. All other lines rotate into back row positions. If the server faults or errors, the server goes to the end of the serving line but the other players stay on the court. No point is awarded to any team on serving errors. Once a successful serve is delivered to the receiving side, the rally is played out until a point is won. If the receiving side wins the point, they stay on their side and the serving side players all rotate off and new players in line wave onto the court. If the receiving side loses the point, then the serving side waves under under the net and advances or onto the receiving side to begin the next rally. If keeping track of points, the only points that can be earned and kept are done so on the receiving side only and not on the wave. Again, serving errors do not earn points.

Game Play:

  • Games to 24 points, win by 2pts, no limit on points/no cap.
  • We play with 7 players per team on most nights to prepare players for real game and tournament play using a libero and real position rotations.
  • We do not condone iron-middles or all-time middles, our goal is to prepare athletes for growth.
  • If the attendance is not fully capped/sold out and each team agrees to play with 6, then the collective group can decide equally and fairly.
  • We do a workup court format so winners advance to the next court. If a team loses on the winning/top court, they will sit one game out as they wait to begin on the starting court. If a team loses on the starting court, they keep playing until they win and advance up. When teams are unfairly balanced we may enact a 2-win-and-sit policy where after two wins in a row, on the winning court, the team must start over and sit one round.
